Johann Sebastian BACH St John Passion
(version with texts by Sergi Belbel)
The St John Passion is one of the most important and transcendental works by the German composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Composed in the 18th century, this work of sacred music tells the story of Christ’s trial, crucifixion, and resurrection, reflecting his emotions and suffering.
With new texts written by Sergi Belbel, and with Enric López, Mercè Pons and Meritxell Yanes (Girona) as narrators, Bach’s Passion will champion the authenticity of all human passions in this era of political correctness. The performance will feature the voices of Marta Mathéu, Elionor Martínez, Eulàlia Fantova, Joan Francesc Folqué, Elias Arranz and Josep-Ramon Olivé, along with the Madrigal Choir, the Chamber Choir of Girona Provincial Council, the Quòdlibet Choral Group, the Choir of the Rovira i Virgili University and the Belles Arts Choir, under the baton of Xavier Puig, who will once again be at the helm of this production by the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès.
The St John Passion by Bach is considered one of the great masterpieces of Western music. Its profound spirituality, musical expressiveness and compositional skill make it one of the great treasures of the classical music repertoire.
