Music for the Royal Fireworks
Vespres d’Arnadí once again shows why it is one of the most renowned Baroque orchestras with two of the great works of the Baroque repertoire: The Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks, by G. F. Handel.
The Water Music is a demonstration of Handel’s mastery as a composer, with his ability to create vivid and varied melodies, and his expertise in orchestration. The work captures the joyfulness and splendour of the Baroque era, and remains much loved today as one of Handel’s masterpieces and as one of the most significant contributions to the classical music repertoire.
The composer wrote Music for the Royal Fireworks in 1749 for the wonderful royal fireworks display that lit up the sky over London, an annual event in the 18th century. The work is an exquisite combination of orchestral music, fanfares and waltzes, with captivating melodies and wonderful harmonies. Handel’s compositions captured the spirit of celebration perfectly, giving life to the colours and movements of the fireworks.
